However, the late efforts were not enough to prevent MU from losing. Another reason cited was the 24-day break since the draw against Bournemouth, which caused the team to lose their rhythm and start slowly. Captain Bruno Fernandes admitted that the whole team had prepared well, but it was not enough to secure a victory.
Despite still being in the top group and having many opportunities to qualify for the Champions League, this defeat is a clear warning for Carrick. Mistakes in personnel selection, along with inconsistent form after the long break, are putting MU at risk in the crucial stage of the season. Conversely, the victory helps Leeds end a 45-year winless streak at Old Trafford and move closer to their goal of avoiding relegation.
