Los Angeles, California - Olivia Rodrigo's song serena joy, which is inspired by The Handmaid's Tale, is officially available to listen to on streaming services after a previous limited release.
The pop-rock princess posted to Instagram on Monday, writing, "surprise!!! serena joy out on streaming platforms now... I love this song so much!!!!"
Liv added that "a portion of all net proceeds go to daisy chain fields fund," referencing her all-female music festival, dubbed the Daisy Chain Fields Music Festival.
Proceeds from serena joy and the festival as a whole will also be donated to charities that support and advocate for women and girls.
The sold-out event is set to feature an all-star line-up of "heroes and friends," including icons like Stevie Nicks, Chappell Roan, Doechii, K-Pop group Katseye, and more!
The song serena joy was initially pressed into only 500 CDs for sale at Analog Music Shop, a super limited stock that quickly sold out.
The title appears to be a nod to the Margaret Atwood book and TV show, The Handmaid's Tale, a story of a dystopian America in which women are forcibly used as breeding stock for a patriarchal ruling class.
Serena Joy is the wife of a powerful man in this fictional society, and she supports him implicitly – until realizing that she has long advocated for a system that is actively oppressing her as well as the other women she long considered rivals.
"Yeah it's all for the cause / For the good of us all / And if you close your eyes / Then it can't be your fault," Olivia sings in her new track.
