MANILA, Philippines — Filipino-born fashion designer Alexis Monsanto joins Los Angeles Fashion Week with his Spring-Summer 2027 collection, “Ode to Odyssey.”
The show, presented by Art Hearts Fashion, will take place at The Majestic Downtown in Los Angeles on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Inspired by nature and fantasy, the collection combines floral designs, aquatic elements, animals and celestial imagery. It features soft pastel colors, intricate embroidery, hand-painted fabrics and sculptural silhouettes.
Monsanto’s designs incorporate materials such as silk organza, pineapple fabric, silk chiffon, linen and Italian tulle. The collection also uses Swarovski crystals on Solstiss lace.
Monsanto studied at Otis College of Art and Design and founded the Los Angeles-based Alexis Monsanto Atelier.
The designer will collaborate with Philippine heritage clothing store Noble Creations, jeweler Charlie Lapson and Filipino footwear designer Jojo Bragais for the collection. The presentation will also feature the Monsanto luxury tote bag.
Art Hearts Fashion executive producer Erik Rosete said Monsanto’s creative vision and theatrical runway presentations earned him the invitation to open the event.
“His work and his creative vision as a designer, with his theatrical presentation and cinematic visuals, have earned him the invitation to open LAFW,” Rosete said. “It will be an unforgettable evening of runway shows and the best designers that we can showcase.”
Monsanto began gaining recognition in Los Angeles after becoming a finalist in the KTLA 5 Catwalk competition in 2011. He later served as a red-carpet commentator for KTLA during awards season in 2013 and 2014.
He has since become a regular participant at Los Angeles Fashion Week, with LA Fashion Magazine describing him as a “runway visionary.”
Most recently, Monsanto received a Special Commendation from the State of New York, presented by Assembly Member Steven B. Raga, recognizing him as a Fashion Designer of Distinction.
His designs have been worn by Hollywood celebrities, including Charlize Theron, Kate Beckinsale, Karol G, Mariah Carey, Felicity Huffman and Jennifer Coolidge, as well as Olympic medalists Simone Biles and Missy Franklin.
