A husky who became reactive after witnessing another dog attack his owner at the park, met his new sibling in shelter—his reaction has melted hearts on social media.
In a viral TikTok video shared on Monday under the username @pnwsally, the Siberian husky can be seen meeting his new sister in the shelter, and while his parents were prepared for the worst, his reaction surprised them.
The pup’s owner, Sally Compton, from Oregon, told Newsweek that 8-year-old Wiley became reactive to new dogs, especially males, after watching her get attacked by a dog at a dog park when he was around 3 years old.
However, despite his reactivity, they noticed that he seemed too bored and sleepy all by himself, so they decided to look for a companion.
“We decided to keep an eye out for a potential husky female friend to adopt, and one day we stopped by a local shelter to see what dogs they had,” Compton said.
“We met a couple but when we explained our dog could be reactive, the volunteer said that she had a 1-year-old female husky-shepherd mix that got along with all the other dogs at the shelter and was very well behaved.”
The pup had been there for five months after being found on the side of the road, and the poster immediately loved her, so they decided to do a quick introduction with her and Wiley at the truck, which seemed to go well since his tail was wagging.
“We walked them on leash next to each other for a couple minutes, and then we brought them to a private fenced in area to test how they would do off leash together.
“I couldn’t believe it but they immediately started playing together, and she loved chasing Wiley. I hadn’t seen him play or run like that in several years. We decided it was a perfect fit.”
After a successful introduction, they brought the pup home that same day, and named her Disco. Wiley immediately opened up to her, he let her use his bed, play with his toys, and was just a little possessive with his food.
“They immediately continued playing together in the backyard. It has been a year since then and she has definitely taken up the role of annoying little sister,” Compton said.
“She always wants to be around him and constantly nibbles his neck, licks his mouth and sleeps next to him. He tolerates it and acts grumpy, but we can tell that he is a lot happier and more energetic with her around.”
The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 653,100 views and 96,300 likes on the platform.
One user, Christen, commented: “He’s not reactive, he [is] selective.”
The Wandering Mountain Goat said: “There you are, I’ve been waiting for you’ like soul mates from a past life.”
